New Lions’ Coach Like You’ve Never Seen Him Before
It was the worst kept secret in football the past two weeks, that Matt Patricia was going to be the next coach of the Detroit Lions. But take a look at what I uncovered.
I found some head shots of Patricia from 10 years ago. No, he's not clean shaven, but he does look different.
This is what coaching 10 years under Bill Belichick will do to you. (That's a joke.)
Here's the nuts and bolts of what was announced today: Patricia is the new coach of the Lions. The official press conference is Wednesday afternoon. He's coached both offense and defense, but his specialty is defense, and it appears Jim Bob Cooter, who Matthew Stafford likes, will remain the Lion's offensive coordinator.
He's coached in multiple Super Bowls (some of which the Patriots have won, though not yesterday), which the Lions have never played in, but would really like to.
Patricia has a degree in aeronautical engineering. That's about as close as any team has had to having a rocket scientist at the helm. Word is he's really smart.
If you're a Lions' fan, you probably wish the Philadelphia Eagles hadn't hung 41 points on his Patriots' defense as he prepares to come to Detroit. But if he can get Stafford and company to at least one Super Bowl in the next few years, no one will even remember that.
