After 39 Years Olga’s Kitchen In Portage Has Closed

After 39 years of serving Mediterranean style food in Portage Olga's has closed its doors.

Olga’s Kitchen is an American chain of Greek-based family restaurants located primarily in the Midwestern United States, named after the founder, Olga Loizon (1926–2019). As of January 2019, there were twenty-seven restaurants: twenty-six in Michigan, and one in Illinois.[1] The first location opened in Birmingham, Michigan in 1970, which is now closed. The company is based in Livonia, Michigan.

Olga's is easily the only place in Southwest Michigan you can find Greek food in a fast food type of restaurant.  Now that the Crossroads Mall location has closed the closest location is the new one near Costco on Stadium Drive in Kalamazoo.

A spokesperson for Olga's Kitchen responded to our story with the following statement,

Olga’s Kitchen has decided to close the location at Crossroads Mall in Portage aligned with our location strategy. We have offered our team the opportunity to transfer to a different Olga’s Kitchen or apply for a position at another restaurant within our family of brands. Our area fans can continue to enjoy their favorite menu items just a few miles away at our Kalamazoo location at Stadium Dr. and Drake St.
