One Trump/Cohen Tape Played; Do You Care?
Well the saga continues, one of President Trump’s personal attorneys or some have called fix it man, Michael Cohen, has released through his attorney Lanny Davis one of a number of tapes they say he has.
Yes you have heard of the name Lanny Davis before, from 1996 to 1998, he served as a special counsel to President Bill Clinton, and was a spokesperson for the President and the White House during Clinton’s administration.
On this tape you hear Cohen and then Presidential candidate Trump discussing how they would buy the rights to a former Playboy model’s accusation that she had an affair with Donald Trump back in 2006 and 2007.
On the tape released to CNN and played in bits and pieces on CNN's "Cuomo Prime Time” show you hear Cohen stating:
I need to open up a company for the transfer of all of that info regarding our friend David…I spoke to Allen about it, when it comes time for the financing
When then candidate Trump heard the word financing he interrupted Cohen and said:
Wait a sec, what financing?...[UNINTELLIGIBLE] pay with cash.
Cohen then states:
No, no, no, no, no. I got it.
Candidate Trump then replies
Check
You can go to a Washington Post piece in which they state that they have transcribed the entire tape
Obviously the entire debate now is what was the “Unintelligible” word said by Candidate Trump before he said “pay with cash”. If you are told by any pundit or reporter that the tape definitively said he wanted to pay with cash or did not want to pay cash, question the pundit or reporters bias.
I have listened to the tape many times and cannot determine definitively what was said. If I was forced to choose what he said I would error on the side of “don’t”. I believe it will all come down to whether you have a general dislike or like of him or his policies.
You do need to know that Rudy Giuliani, the President's attorney, has said no payment was ever made from Trump. Rudy Giuliani has previously acknowledged that the recorded discussion related to the buying the story rights.
The real question in today’s environment is whether you care what he said or did not say before he was elected as our President.
