Pancheros Mexican Grill is closing the second oldest location in the chain along Grand River Avenue in East Lansing. Will that closure have any affect on the Pancheros on Westnedge Avenue in Portage?

According to the Lansing State Journal, the Pancheros in East Lansing is being shuttered because,

location and condition of the building did not meet the company’s current standards, and company officials decided against remodeling.

“We have been actively searching for a new location in downtown East Lansing for a few years, and we will continue the search,” Travis said.

By phone, Travis said having a Chipotle at 539 E. Grand River and a Qdoba at 1127 E. Grand River – each with similar menus to Pancheros – did not affect the decision to close.

Travis declined to elaborate on what the company considers its current standards.

“We’re interested in looking at a new, more updated building. We just haven’t found one yet,” Travis said. “Our real estate team is looking aggressively.”

There are no changes expected at any other Pancheros location in Michigan including the Portage store.
