Police are trying to find the owner of a dog in Allegan county that was shot, and the person who shot the animal.

According to WOOD TV 8, the male Husky mix was found shot in the neck Wednesday near Wayland.

Michigan State Police received a call Wednesday night that someone had found a wounded dog near 5th Street and 129th Avenue in Wayland.

The dog was then taken to Dorr Veterinary Clinic to get patched up. Vets say the dog is very lucky the bullet did not hit his spine, and he is expected to make a full recovery in about a week.

Police say if they cannot locate the owner, once the dog heals, they will then turn the animal over to the Allegan County Animal Shelter and then the dog will be put up for adoption.

If you know who owns the dog or better yet, who shot the dog, please contact the Michigan State Police post located in Wayland at 269-792-2213.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help with the dog's care.
