Rate of Reported Sexual Assaults on College Campuses
The narrative for the last few years has been that our college campuses our extremely dangerous places for our your adult daughters to be. We were told that the colleges's and universities that are daughters roam are filled with deviant men who are trolling these campuses to rape our daughters.
In fact if you have followed the discussion around sexual assault on college campuses in America, it’s likely you’ve heard some variation of the claim that 1 in 5 women on college campuses in the United States has been sexually assaulted or raped.
There were some news outlets that reported that 1 in 5 women were actually raped on American college campuses.
Well a new study and analysis of data provided by schools to the U.S. Department of Education and published by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) states that 89% of colleges reported zero incidents of rape in 2015.
While 11% of college campuses have reported a "sexual assault" on their campus is still very high, the question is what do they define "sexual assault" as? In the past these studies have defined a "sexual assault" as an unwanted touch of the arm. I could not find how "sexual assault" is defined in the study I have linked to in this article.
To put the 11% in context the percentage of rapes reported in the city of Detroit is less than 1%.
We need a well defined study with extremely accurate numbers to determine what is truly going on in our college campuses and thus what policies, procedures and programs to put in place to deal with thes
