You have to understand, it's just not the same world it was thirty years ago. but give the Kalamazoo County Board and the Fair Board credit for trying to reinvent, or at the very least, re-brand the Kalamazoo County Fair as the Kalamazoo County Youth Fair.

For the past few years, it's been the "Youth Fair", and it's going on this week at the Kalamazoo County Fairgrounds on Lake Street. If you look at the list of events and such, it's not all that different. the fair is still carnival rides and livestock displays. There's even some music, all local acts; nothing even close to what it was, when Stevie Ray Vaughan or Nelson played the mainstage.

UPDATE: A Fortnite tournament scheduled for Friday afternoon has been cancelled, due to a "scheduling conflict", according to the Fair.

There are still several days left to enjoy the rides or to participate in that day's theme.

As part of Fairy Tale Day, Majesty’s Royal Guard Combat Troupe performs tonight at 7pm in the Grandstand. Kids get a a free teacup sipper or rubber duck.

Thursday (August 8th) is "Planes, Trains & Automobiles Day" Kids get a free Hot Wheels car or a Build-A-Car kit. The AirZoo is bringing over their F16 Flight Simulator, and something called “The World’s Smallest Airshow” is at 5pm. in the Grandstand.

The schedule for Friday, August 9, Buzz About Books Day and a Robotics demonstration.

There's a "Lost Nations" rodeo on Saturday evening, the final day of the fair.

The entire schedule is on the Fair's website.
