It looks like fans will have to wait awhile longer before the Red Wings name a new captain.

According to M-Live,  Red Wings coach, Jeff Blashill said the team will not have a captain to start the season.

Like last season the team will have 4 alternates.  Dylan Larkin, Frans Neilsen and Justin Abdelkader will stay as alternates.   Luke Glendening will be an alternate due to the retirement of Niklas Kronwall.

Only three players can wear a letter during a game so the team will rotate it depending on the game.   Last year Larkin wore the A at home and Nielsen on the road.

As new general manager Steve Yzerman has a chance to meet the players, maybe  a change will be made.

Training camp for the Red Wings starts this weekend in Traverse City.  The first preseason game is Tuesday night in Detroit against Chicago.

The regular season kicks off on the road in Nashville on October 5th.
