Do you remember last month when a Saturday Night Live (SNL) cast member by the name of Pete Davidson mocked Republican Congressmen-elect Dan Crenshaw for wearing an eye-patch?  He wore the eye patch because he lost his eye when an IED exploded near him while he was in Afghanistan.

Pete Davidson said on the show:

You may be surprised to hear he’s a congressional candidate for Texas and not a hit-man in a porno movie

Well Dan Crenshaw’s reaction surprised some back then when he said:

Good rule in life: I try hard not to offend; I try harder not to be offended. That being said, I hope @nbcsnl recognizes that vets don’t deserve to see their wounds used as punchlines for bad jokes

Republican Congressmen-elect Crenshaw showed a lot of class in his reaction, remember what I say on my show, there is a party of adults and one of teenagers.  I say this in response to how many on the right react to things as opposed to those on the left.

The SNL cast member received quite a bit of backlash from his comments on the show.

The Congressman-elect Crenshaw then went on to SNL to accept an apology from Davidson, an apology that he never asked for or thought that Davidson needed to give to him.  They even had some fun together on the show in their skit.

Well recently the SNL cast member Pete Davidson posted the following on his social media account:

I really don’t want to be on this earth anymore. I’m doing my best to stay here for you but i actually don’t know how much longer i can last. All i’ve ever tried to do was help people. Just remember i told you so.

Obviously Mr. Davidson is struggling with things in his life.  How did Congressman-elect Crenshaw react?  In another classy move he said he reached out to Pete Davidson and according to the Daily Caller said the following:

It was pretty devastating. You don’t want to see somebody in that position to the point where they’re actually putting out a cry for help on social media, now that’s not a good place to be in. I talked to him personally yesterday and I talked to him for a little about it. You know we don’t go back very far, we’re not good friends but I think he appreciated hearing from me….What I told him is this, everybody has a purpose in this world. God put you here for a reason.

In a time of such partisan divide and all the craziness we see happening in our political world it is nice to be able to point out some really good things that happen between those on the left and right.

We as a people need to start bringing this fractured country together, the media and the political parties will not do it on their own.

To start we need to start holding all people in power to the same yardstick and stop this my team your team attitude.

Remember it starts with us and try to perform at least one act of kindness during this Christmas Holiday.
