Semi-Automatic Pistol Fired Off In Portage After Altercation
The Portage Department of Public Safety received a report of several shots fired in the area of Ohio Ave. and West Van Hoesen St. in the City of Portage. Officers responded to the area to investigate at approximately 11:32 a.m. Saturday, March 23.
A witness said that a red passenger car, possibly a Mazda, was chasing a silver four door passenger car, possibly a Cobalt, in the neighborhood. A short time later, a witness said that the silver four door car stopped on Ohio Ave. facing north bound at the intersection of West Van Hoesen Street. The red passenger car was driving west bound on Van Hoesen and stopped in the middle of the intersection at Ohio Ave. There appeared to be some type of altercation and the passenger in the silver car exited and several shots were fired at the Red passenger car. The Red passenger car fled north bound on Ohio Ave. and east bound on Idaho. The silver passenger car fled west bound on Van Hoesen and south bound on Oregon Ave.
The passenger of the silver car could only be described as a black male. No further description.
It was believed that the driver and only occupant in the red vehicle, was black, unknown sex, with dread locks or braided hair. No further description. It is unknown if anyone was injured during the exchange.
Evidence left at the scene indicated the passenger of the silver vehicle was in possession of a semi-automatic pistol and there may be damage to the red vehicle after being struck with bullets.
