We know all about the beauty of Michigan, but did you know that we have several "wonders" that you need to check out? You might know about the "Seven Wonders of the World" (and if you ask any Michigander, Michigan has more than seven wonders), but below are the top seven wonders in Michigan. Just a note, these are ranked by the votes that USA Today got which were used to compile the list. You might be shocked that a few "wonders" didn't make the list.

  • 1

    The Great Lakes

First off, this "wonder" got the most votes in their poll. As you probably guessed, coming in at number one is The Great Lakes. The Great Lakes are more than 10,000 years old made up of several glaciers, with more than 11,000 miles of shoreline. It's something that every Michigander and everyone that visits Michigan has to see.

    The Mackinac Bridge

Coming in a close 2nd place is the "Mighty Mac" also known as the Mackinac Bridge. The "Mighty Mac" is celebrating 62 years since it opened in November 1957. It was known as the longest suspension bridge in the world for a long time, but it was eventually eclipsed. The Mackinac Bridge is something you need to see, cross, and maybe even walk across one time in your life as it is a beautiful sight to see.

    The Grand Hotel

Next, after you cross the Mackinac Bridge, you can take a ferry to The Grand Hotel, which comes in 3rd. The Grand Hotel is something to see, even if you aren't staying there. You'll want to visit just for the world's longest porch, which measures at 660 feet long and some great views of the Mackinac Bridge and Great Lakes. The Grand Hotel is also known for their classic style rooms and history.

  • 4

    Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

Right behind The Grand Hotel on the list and just a little south of the Mackinac Bridge is the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. It comes in at 4th in the Wonders and it was also declared the most beautiful place in America in 2011 by ABC's "Good Morning America." It was once a big Michigan secret for years, but now it has become a must-see destination for travelers from around the country.

  • 5

    Mackinac Island

You don't have to travel far from the #4 on the list to reach #5 cause that's Mackinac Island. Mackinac Island houses the beautiful Grand Hotel as well as historical sights. Plus it is a great place for people visit for the history, the fudge (of course!), and the famed law of banning cars. Mackinac Island is also named as one of the best island vacations in the world.

  • 6

    Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

Next up at #6 will be quite a drive to get to but it's the amazing Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore covers 42 miles and more than 73,000 acres of Lake Superior shoreline. This wonder gets its name from the 15-mile stretch of sandstone cliffs, natural stone sculptures and caverns formed by thousands of years of crashing waves. I went here last summer and got to check it out up close in a pontoon boat, and it's definitely something to see.

    Tahquamenon Falls

Finally closing out the list and just barely making it at #7 is Tahquamenon Falls. Again, this is another drive as it is west of Sault Ste. Marie, but it worth it as it is the largest waterfalls east of Mississippi. I managed to check this out on my way to Munising and it was worth stopping by and getting some pictures for a few minutes.
