An asteroid, known to scientists as 2018 VP1, is headed toward Earth. We know it will pass very close to Earth. So close scientists say it has a 1 in 240 chance of impacting Earth. And it will be at its closest point (or maybe impact) on November 2, 2020. The night before the Presidential Election.

Everything I’ve written is very true. What I’ve left off in an effort to cause as much fear as possible (see how easy that is?) is the fact that, according to ClickOnDetroit, asteroid 2018 VP1 is about seven feet across. If it does impact Earth, it’ll probably look cool, but it will break up in the atmosphere and - at most - leave fragments scattered on the lawn in front of your polling place.

We were probably in more danger last Sunday, when the 2020QG asteroid missed Earth by about 1800 miles. That thing was about 20 feet across. You definitely would've known about it if that thing had entered the atmosphere.

Don't worry about 2018 VP1 - we've got other things to worry about.

Here's the story (with some good video starring Michael Narlock, the head of astronomy at the Cranbrook Institute of Science)
