Walk through a 5-acre field of brilliantly colored sunflowers and take one home with you at Michigan's one and only Sunflower Festival, debuting in Richland.

Helianthus annuus is the scientific name for the natural wonder we know as the sunflower. Its history has roots back to long before the scientific age with the earliest known examples in the United States of a fully domesticated sunflower found in Tennessee, dating to around 2300 B.C. It is the state flower of Kansas and the official symbol of the Vegan Society. Perhaps that is more than you have ever known about sunflowers, and the Sunflower Festival is your chance to see more than you ever have- all in one place. Five acres of Gull Meadow Farms will be filled with more than a dozen different colors of the flowers.

Amateur botanists and lovers of beauty will get a wagon ride out to the sunflower patch, get access to the fields and a cut sunflower to take home as a souvenir. There is also a special golden/sunset hour viewing scheduled nightly from 6:30-8:30, and provisions made for photographers. Find out more on the Facebook event page and enjoy Michigan's first ever Sunflower Festival.
