Paw Paw’s St. Julian Winery Adds 2 More Michigan Locations
Saint Julian is the patron saint of hospitality: "travelers on a journey and far from home pray to him for a comfortable lodging." Vino fans travelling up North on 131 and to the Detroit area will be able to get some Southwest Michigan comfort as St. Julian Winery is opening 2 new locations in Rockford and Troy.
The Detroit location is a homecoming of sorts as founder Mariano Meconi came from Italy to Windsor, Ontario, Canada in 1908. When he was just 26 years old, in 1921, Meconi founded the winery and moved across the river to Detroit when prohibition was repealed in 1933, later moving to Paw Paw to be near Lake Michigan in 1936.
Opening in May in Troy's Oakland Mall, it will be the winery's 5th Michigan tasting room and #6 opens later this year in Rockford. St. Julian's other tasting rooms are in Frankenmuth, Union Pier and Dundee. Craft beer is a growing industry in Michigan and it seems the winery business is good too. Cheers!
