State ‘Urges’ Schools To Restart In-Person Learning March 1st
It may not be the news many adults were waiting for, but many parents have to be happy with this. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer on Friday urged that all schools begin to offer in-person classes by March 1st.
In a Detroit News report, the governor said that March 1st is the goal for all Michigan schools to offer "as much face-to-face learning as possible."
She said experts say face to face learning is critical in the education process and that medical experts have determined that schools can be a safe environment if strict rules and safety measures are followed.
"The value of in-person learning for our kids is immeasurable, and we must do everything we can to help them get a great education safely," Whitmer “Over the last 10 months, medical experts and epidemiologists have closely followed the data and have learned that schools can establish a low risk of transmission by ensuring that everyone wears a mask and adopting careful infection prevention protocols. - Governor Gretchen Whitmer via The Detroit News.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services will be sending updated rules to schools, saying schools "should assign children to cohort groups and limit their interactions to those groups in a bid to reduce the number of contacts they have."
A more difficult request from MDHHS is that schools attempt keeping children six feet apart from one another along with having ample amounts of hand sanitizers.
