The City of Battle Creek has announced a road closure that will be in place for most of the day Thursday.

The city made the announcement just before 10am Thursday, that Greenville St. in Post Addition between Post and Lathrop Avenues was completely closed to through traffic; the closure is in place so the Water Division can replace a lead water service pipe.

The City of Battle Creek says that the closure will be in effect "through this afternoon". Motorists are advised to seek an alternate route.

Water service will remain on, as this is just a road closure.

According to Battle Creek's 2018 Water Quality Report released last month, there were 4,680 lead service lines, out of 24,240 total services in the City of Battle Creek proper. There were also 1,538 lines that the city didn't know the material of, in Emmett and Bedford Townships as well as the City of Springfield.

The report also showed that the amount of lead in the city's water supply was well bellow the amount allowed by the Environmental Protection Agency; only 1 part per billion was detected, with the AL being 15 ppb.
