A tour of the state of Michigan to help families understand financial aid for students will be making stops in Battle Creek and Kalamazoo.

The Michigan Department of Treasury says that the tour around the lower Peninsula began Tuesday with a stop in Livonia. MI Student Aid's Outreach Team is holding workshops, where team members will help with free scholarship searches, college financing strategies, and state program eligibility look-ups, to students and their families.

The stops are taking place all around Michigan between now and November 2, including ones in our area:

  • Kalamazoo, October 8
    • Kalamazoo Valley Community College
    • 6767 W. O Ave.
    • 6-7:30pm
  • Jackson, October 9
    • Jackson Community College
    • 2111 Emmons Rd.
    • 6-7:30pm
  • Battle Creek, October 10
    • Calhoun Area Career Center
    • 475 E. Roosevelt Ave.
    • 9am-1:30pm

Deputy State Treasurer Anne Wohlfert, who oversees the Treasury Department's student finance programs, says that "Our Outreach unit is knowledgeable and equipped with helpful resources to assist students and families through the financial aid process", which is useful because "paying for college can be a difficult and frustrating" effort.
