A teacher in West Bloomfield's Lakeland School district left school in handcuffs Wednesday (9/18) morning after a breathalyzer test showed that his blood-alcohol level was four times the legal limit.

Police tell WXYZ that administrators suspected Michael Fletcher of being intoxicated. A school resource officer investigated before contacting police.

Fletcher's blood-alcohol level was reported to be .354%. He admitted to consuming alcohol before driving to school.

He's been charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with a high blood-alcohol level and driving on a suspended license.

The school issued a statement saying a teacher had been removed from school but failed to mention that it was for being drunk at school.

I wanted to make you aware that a Lakeland staff member was escorted by the police from LHS today as a result of legal issues unrelated to students. A shelter in place was called so that students did not witness the situation. The staff member will not be on campus while this matter is pending. I cannot share any additional information at this time.
