With the Grand River being the longest river in Michigan, what's the shortest river? And just how short is it?

If you've ever found one of these bizarre looking shells in any of West Michigan's rivers it may be a remnant of the once booming pearl button industry.

At only 1,500 feet long this river in northern Michigan is considered to be the shortest in the state. Conversely, the Grand River is the longest at 252 miles.

Clamming was once a booming industry in Michigan. Freshwater mussel shells made perfect mother-of-pearl buttons in the early 20th century.
