Kalamazoo Air Zoo

Two planes rescued from Lake Michigan are being restored by The Air Zoo.

The term "dream big" is thrown around a lot, but it's easy to see where Adele Luta's reality is bigger than any dream she might have had growing up.

They are the words of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt that many of us know all too well, "December 7th, 1941. A date which will live in infamy". The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii began the United States' entry into World War II. The 80th anniversary of the attack is this coming Tuesday.

When you ask people what their favorite season is, Summer and Spring usually are one and two, but Fall ranks ahead of Winter, and no matter what, it's one of the four most popular seasons of the year.

There's something very special about a restoration project. Sometimes it's a historic home; sometimes it's a classic car. But for this group, many with military and service backgrounds, the passion is for aircraft.

This Thursday evening, some aviation Hall of Famers and teaching and student award winners will get their due through Kalamazoo's Air Zoo and you'll be able to take a look. The event is the Air Zoo's 7th annual Science Innovation Hall of Fame Awards.

The Kalamazoo Air Zoo is commemorating the anniversary of women's suffrage with an exhibit relating women's contributions and achievements in aviation and space flight.

The AirZoo has a big weekend planned in early October celebrating the legendary SR-71 reconnaissance aircraft. It is still holds the record as the fastest manned airplane ever.

Kalamazoo's Air Zoo will be participating in remembrance ceremonies across the country and the world, as June 6th will be the 75th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion that led to the victory in Europe during World War II.

The Wings of Freedom Tour of the WWII Vintage Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, Consolidated B-24 Liberator and North American P-51 Mustang are at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo in Portage, in the East Wing, now thru Friday, August 7.
