You may not have known Lena Meijer. As with many women of her generation, she was the backbone of the family. In this case, it's the family was the Meijer family, whose stores are all over the Midwest now. Lena Meijer was a daughter, a wife, a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and eventually a philanthropist. She died this past Saturday. Meijer was 102.
There were several alcohol-related crashes and accidents this past weekend. You can see the damage from one of them at the Meijer gas station on Pennsylvania when you drive by.
The Grand Rapids location, which now has a historical marker placed on the property, will be celebrating it's 60th year in business on June 6th, of 2022.

The Governor is announcing the doubling of the current 50,000 daily vaccination goal to getting 100,000 Michigan residents at least started with the process every day.
Meijer reports it will open the new state mass vaccination site at the converted Ford Field in Detroit a day earlier than originally set. It opens this morning. The site is open to anyone from even Battle Creek and Kalamazoo. There are no geographical limitations on where recipients live.
