The National Weather Service says a large portion of the lower peninsula is in the "slight risk" category for severe weather according to the Storm Prediction Center.
Thursday will bring the warmest temperatures of the year so far to Michigan, but also will bring with it a threat for the first severe weather outbreak.
Michigan's Severe Weather Awareness Week will take place March 24, 2019 through the 30. A voluntary statewide tornado drill is scheduled to occur at 1 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, March 27.
