Battle Creek is about to make a big change in services for city residents. The big changeover from Waste Management to Republic Services for the city’s waste-hauling and recycling pickups kicks in Thursday.

The city is asking anyone who has parked a vehicle along a city street to move it off the street if at all possible. That will help plows get curb-to-curb coverage and clear out more snow for driving access.

Dumpsters will be blue instead of green and the city will save $6 million

City staff is recommending that Battle Creek may be better served by a new trash hauler. It certainly would be a lot less expensive.

The city of Battle Creek is easing in a new program to encourage people to do a better job of recycling.  Patty Hoch-Melluish is the city’s Environmental and Storm Services Manager.  She says that starting Monday, November 2nd, Waste Management Workers will start tagging recycling carts that have the wrong stuff in them...
