I have said it many times before but I will say it again.  What in the heck is going on in our society and specifically schools?

Now The Daily Caller is reporting that a St. Paul Minnesota elementary school principal is sincerely considering canceling Christmas.  Yes cancel Christmas as well as Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Valentine’s Day.

Why is this genius considering canceling all of those holidays: because those holidays work to “suppress” the views of some students.

Really, how does Christmas “suppress” the views of other students?  Just how are their views “suppressed”?

The principal was quoted in the article saying:

“I have come to the difficult decision to discontinue the celebration of the dominant holidays until we can come to a better understanding of how the dominant view will suppress someone else’s view.”

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the elementary school he is principal of is 52% Asian, 35% black, 6% Hispanic, and just 4% white.

So what is this principal saying that Asians, black and Hispanic people do not believe in or want to celebrate Christmas or any of those other holidays?

Sounds kind of presumptuous and possibly bigoted to me.

Apparently the St. Paul school district already discourages the celebrating of some holidays except for  Veterans Day and the birthdays of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Martin Luther King  For those holidays the schools are expected to observe the holiday in some way.

Interesting, my question to the principal and the school district would be how do those holidays not “suppress” the views of other students.

Let’s discuss this tomorrow (Monday) on my program, The Live with Renk show, which airs Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to noon, to let me know your thoughts at (269) 441-9595.
