Two Arrested After Fleeing From Traffic Stop In Portage
Two people are facing multiple charges after an attempted traffic stop in Portage.
WOODTV reports that Sunday afternoon, an officer attempted to pull over a vehicle for reckless driving, but the driver instead sped off and the officer didn’t give chase. Shortly afterwards, a resident called police to say someone had left their car in their backyard in the area of Portage Rd. and Lancelot Court; it was determined to be the same car from the traffic stop, so a search of the area was conducted.
A few blocks away, the driver and passenger of the car were found and arrested. Portage Police then received a call from someone saying a gun had been left in their unlocked car, and that gun was then linked to their newly arrested passenger.
The driver, a 36-year-old woman from Florida, is set to be charged with fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, and a controlled substance charge. The passenger, a 29-year-old Vicksburg man, is facing charges of resisting and obstructing, illegal entry, and multiple weapons offenses.
