It probably came as a shocker to most Michigan fans this morning, but University of Michigan basketball coach John Beilein is leaving the program to coach the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski broke the story Monday morning. It is believed the 66 year old Beilein received a five year contract. No financial details have become public, yet.

Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, who is heavily invested in both Michigan and Cleveland, made a failed run at Michigan State University coach Tom Izzo a few years.

With Beilein off for greener pastures, left behind are many questions. Beilein leaves behind a very desirable incoming recruiting class (Which also poses the bigger question; whether players should be released from the commitment to the school, if the coach takes off for a new job.) and with his decade of success, the job is a crown jewel in college basketball.

Who will Michigan look to replace Beilein? Speculation in the Detroit News suggests names like Oklahoma City Thunder coach Billy Donovan (who won two NCAA titles at Florida), Villanova coach Jay Wright, and Texas Tech coach Chris Beard, whose style of basketball might be perfect in the Big Ten.

While the Cleveland roster is not filled with much talent now, the NBA draft lottery Tuesday night will determine where prized college star Zion Williamson will be headed. If it's Cleveland, then this becomes a brilliant move by Beilein.
