I wasn't there, but this really looks like an abuse of power from our vantage point.

A Michigan State Police Officer in an unmarked vehicle is seen running a stop sign in a Detroit neighborhood. A vehicle which had the right of way then collided into the officer's SUV. Surveillance video shows the officer arresting the driver who hit him.

Carlos Martizez's mother tells WXYZ that her son was handcuffed before the police officer even knew if he had been injured.

"My son wasn't sure if it was a (taser) or a gun, so he was scared," Martinez said. She noted that other troopers at the scene tried to convince her that her son had been involved in a crash at another location.

Both Martinez and the officer suffered injuries and were taken to area hospitals. Michigan State Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
