On Tuesday night the Detroit Pistons received the first pick in the first round of this year’s NBA Draft. The NBA Lottery was held, and they hit the jackpot.

The Detroit Pistons have overhauled their team big time. I really believe the Pistons general manager Troy Weaver knows what he is doing. They have made good draft picks the past couple of years.

This year they will have a choice of some outstanding players. But it looks like their focus will be on Oklahoma State guard Cade Cunningham—and it should be.

Cunningham is from Arlington, Texas. He’s listed at 6-foot-8 and 220 pounds. He plays point guard, but that could change to small forward. His size and skill make him a great choice as the first-round pick. He's a solid three-point shooter (40% last year), and he was particularly good at the step-back three.

He was a consensus first-team All-American, Big 12 Player of the Year, and Big 12 Freshman of the Year. All of that, and he's only 19. With a young player like Cunningham, the Pistons could build around him and set themselves up for a while.

This looks like the cat that will be the Pistons' man.

The last time the Pistons had the first pick in the first round was in 1970. That year the Pistons chose the one and only Bob Lanier. Like I said, these Detroit teams are going to start turning the corner.

This is huge getting the first pick in the first round of this year’s NBA Draft. This could lead to more wins in the near future and take them to postseason play. Because the Pistons have smelled for many years and have had bad players and awful head coaches too.

If they're smart, and I think they finally are, they'll pick Cunningham in the draft.
