On the heels of the announcement that the Sears in Crossroads Mall in Portage will be closing comes news that Walgreens too will be closing some of their stores.  Personally, I like Walgreens and do all of my "drug store" business with them.  Of course, the joke with Walgreens is: "Do we need one on every corner?"  There does seem to be more than we need in such close proximity at least from my point of view.  So is that perception/reality part of the reason Walgreens will be closing stores?

In an article on wnem.com, Walgreens announced they would be closing 200 stores in the united States.  Now, there are over 10,000 stores across the country so that's only about 3%.  The official reason for the elimination of 200 locations is economical as they plan to save about $1.5 billion by 2022.  The next question is what stores?  Will they be in the Kalamazoo area?  At this point the company hasn't identified any specific locations so stay tuned.
