The Western Michigan Broncos honored their seniors and put together one of their best games of the season as they head into the NCHC playoffs next weekend.

Up next for the Broncos is the quarterfinal round against St. Cloud State, which finished fifth in the conference. It will be only the second meeting between the two teams this season. In late January, the Broncos swept St. Cloud at Lawson, with both games ending 6-2.

The Broncos honored the seniors on the team Saturday night. And senior forward Hugh McGing took the opportunity to notch his first career hat trick in the victory.

McGing finished the night tying his career-high with four points on three goals and an assist, senior defenseman Cam Lee had a career-high five assists and finished +5, senior forward Wade Allison had three points on a goal and two assists and senior forward Dawson DiPietro had an assist in the game. WMU also picked up goals by Cole Gallant, Austin Rueschhoff, Paul Washe and Ethen Frank. Gallant had a two-point night with an assist and Frank had three, chipping in with two assists in the win. Senior goalie Will Massey made his second collegiate appearance, playing the final 4:44 of the game and making one save. - wmubroncos.com

The game wasn't as one sided early as the score might indicate, as the Redhawks scored first, and managed to tie the game at two early in the second period, but Western just had too much going for them on Saturday night.

The NCHC playoff begin Friday at Lawson Arena, with the second game Saturday night and, if necessary, on Sunday.
