A Bellevue man is in the hospital and likely headed to jail, accused of driving the wrong way on I-69 at high speeds in Calhoun County early Friday morning.

Several witnesses observed a vehicle speeding and traveling south in the northbound lanes near Marshall just before 4:00 am. After multiple calls to 9-1-1, Calhoun County Sheriff's deputies responded and were able to locate the vehicle. Deputies say it had crashed into a guard rail just north of M-60.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 24-year-old man from Bellevue. He was injured in the accident, but authorities did not report the extent of his injuries. He was transported to Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall for treatment.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor and the investigation is ongoing. No official charges have been reported yet. Anyone with information, or who also may have witnessed the vehicle on I-69 early Friday, is encouraged to call the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office at 269-781-0880.
