Are You Fed Up with Democracy?
Have you become more open to anti-democratic, autocratic ideas and our fed up with democracy?
That is what a columnist from the Washington Post is thinking. I actually think it is the other way around, many Americans are fed up with authoritarian rule from our government. That is certainly what we have been under for decades and even more so under President Obama’s rule. Do you remember what President Obama said, if Congress does not act I will.
How is that not authoritarianism? Of course it is, it is actually the definition of authoritarianism.
The dictionary definition of authoritarianism is: favoring or enforcing strict obedience to authority, especially that of the government, at the expense of personal freedom. That is exactly what President Obama and the Democrat party represent in the last few decades.
There are a multitude of actions by the current administration that they do not follow democracy. As I stated above President Obama stating that if the congress does not act I will with executive orders i.e. immigration, regulations (incandescent light bulbs, cafe standards (gas mileage), low flow toilets, marriage defined as a man and women, Michigan’s straight-ticket voting in the state.
The opinion piece points to a recent article in the Journal of Democracy in which “scholars” Roberto Stefan Foa and Yascha Mounk state that “Americans had become steadily more open to anti-democratic, autocratic ideas long before Trump tossed his red hat in the ring.”
Really Trump is an authoritarian, how can we believe in your opinion piece if you are not willing to look at authoritarianism by your team? If a person is not willing to be opened minded and address all manners of authoritarianism again I ask you why we should even ponder your thoughts.
The opinion piece then goes on to state:
Foa and Mounk draw primarily on data from the long-running World Values Survey. For example, when asked whether democracy is a good or bad way to run a country, 9 percent of Americans said it was “fairly bad” or “very bad” in the mid-1990s, compared with 17 percent today.
Is that not what fueled Bernie Sanders campaign, the government will take care of some people no matter what the population as a whole believes or votes?
No one can argue that our government has become larger and larger and its tentacles has reached into almost every aspect of our lives. Can they, can you?
Most people want government out of their lives, the problem is they do not when it directly benefits them.
