Western Michigan University’s internationally recognized vocal jazz ensemble, Gold Company, will open the 2014 Milwood Series of fine arts events at Milwood United Methodist Church in Kalamazoo.

Beginning at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9, the concert is open to the public. A free will offering will be received.

The 2014 Milwood Series will celebrate the church’s ongoing relationship with Western Michigan University’s School of Music which just celebrated its 100th anniversary on the WMU campus.

Now under the direction of GC alumnus Greg Jasperse, Gold Company needs little introduction. For its February concert, Gold Company will be joined by the Gold Company Band and guest vocalist/ composer/pianist Peter Eldridge.

Peter Eldridge is head of the jazz voice faculty at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. His teaching, performance, and recording career is legendary. He is a co-founding member of the Grammy winning New York Voices and has collaborated with a “who’s who” list of jazz celebrities. He has toured internationally for two decades including performances in Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, and the Kennedy Center.

Barrier-free Milwood United Methodist is located at 3919 Portage Street, 49001, one-half mile north of I-94 (exit 78).  A reception will immediately follow the performance.
