Police are investigating after a Kalamazoo man was struck by a train Monday night.

MLive reports that around 10 pm Monday, the incident happened on the tracks just east of the intersection of East Kalamazoo Ave. and N. Porter St. in downtown Kalamazoo. The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says the man had been walking near the tracks right before the crash took place.

The man was pulled under the train after he was hit, and suffered injuries to his leg; shortly after the accident, tourniquets were applied by first responders before he was transferred to the hospital. Authorities say the man was taken into surgery early Tuesday.

Right now, circumstances surrounding this crash remain under investigation, but investigators say they don't believe foul play is a factor.
