Red Wings television analyst and former goalie Darren Eliot is leaving the team and broadcast crew to take a new position with the Vegas Golden Knights.

(UPDATE: Fox Sports Detroit announced Thursday that Red Wings Hall of Famer Larry Murphy will return to replace Eliot)

Eliot's new position will be "Vice President, Hockey Programming and Facility Operations. In addition to his duties directing facility operations at City National Arena, Eliot will also oversee the Vegas Jr. Golden Knights program as the club's Executive Director", according to the team's website. City National Arena is the team's practice facility.

The position is in line with what Eliot has been doing the past five years, when he has been "Director of Minor Hockey Operations for Little Caesars Amateur Hockey". Little Caesar's is owned by the Ilitch family as are the Detroit Red Wings. In the announcement of his new job, the Golden Knights noted Eliot has also been "representative to USA Hockey and Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) Tier 1 Committee, Girls/Women Committee and served as the State's Goaltending Coordinator."

Eliot bid farewell to viewers on Fox Sports Detroit during Tuesday night's Red Wings broadcast. He has been a part of the broadcast crew since 2011.
