From our historic and quaint villages and Great Lakes scenes, it's not difficult to select beautiful street scenes across Michigan. It's more difficult to narrow them down to just five.

PureWow recently complied the 5 Most Beautiful Streets in America which was shared by the Scenic Michigan Facebook page. Scenic Michigan noticed, as did we, that PureWow left Michigan off their list. Here are five stretches of road that PureWow overlooked and sum up some of what's great about Michigan.

    St Clair River Drive

    Algonac

From the shipping vessels that traffic the St Clair River and ferry terminus to Canada on one side and the quaint city of Algonac on the other, St Clair River Drive (M-29) is one of the best drives in Southeast Michigan. Keep your eyes on the water and you might catch a vintage Chris-Craft. The wooden boats were once mass-produced in the city and remain a treasured part of life in Algonac.

    Portage Avenue

    Sault Ste. Marie

Portage Avenue is the northermost street in this Canadian border city. Stroll Portage and you'll not only get views of the lakers that traverse the Soo Locks, but be in the heart of the city's entertainment district with favorites like the Soo Brewing Company featuring Soo-inspired varieties like Icebreaker Stout and Laker Gold.

    Tunnel of Trees

    Harbor Springs to Cross Village

Coming from US 31 and Petoskey to Harbor Springs there is only one route in, M-119. But leaving the charming village of Harbor Springs, there are two choices to Cross Village, State Street (C-77) is the quicker inland route. M-119, however, is the road you want. It's the renowned Tunnel of Trees with glimpses of Lake Michigan through a thick canopy. This section of M-119 a road for going slow and note there's no centerline here.

    State Street

    St. Joseph

With so many picture perfect downtowns along Lake Michigan from New Buffalo north to Petoskey, it's exceptionally difficult to find one street that could possibly encapsulate what it means to be a Michigan beach town. But we think we've found one in State Street, St. Joseph. The southern portion of the street features stately Queen Anne homes, part of the state-recognized Old St Joseph Neighborhood Historic District, while the upper three blocks of the brick-lined street are home to St. Joe's shopping district.

    Lake Shore Drive

    Mackinac Island

To further the great irony that is the streets of Mackinac Island, the best street scene in Michigan is the one that will never see any cars, Lake Shore Road/Main Street (M-185) in downtown Mackinac Island. Main Street is the road that greets the island's visitors alighting from the ferry lines and acquaints them to this unique carriage and bike driven island fueled by the legendary fudge.
