Sex crime charges have now been field against a 20-year-old Battle Creek man accused of impregnating and assaulting a 12-year-old girl.

WWMT says that on Thursday, Dawson Burk was arraigned on charges in two separate cases; he was first charged with two first-degree criminal sexual conduct counts for the alleged rape of the 12-year-old. He was also charged with misdemeanor assault for an incident a week ago today; the girl said that last Friday, Burk approached her as she walked down the street with two other people and pushed her into a fence, while making a comment about making her “lose” her baby.

Right now it’s not confirmed if the 12-year-old is actually pregnant.

The sex crime charges carry up to life in prison, while he could spend a year in jail for the misdemeanor. A Calhoun County Judge denied Burk bond on Thursday, so he remains held in jail.

He's also been ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim, or any unsupervised contact with anyone under 16.
