Billions of Mayflies Appear on Radar Over Lake Erie
If you're heading to Lake Erie, hold your breath.
Radar picked up the image of billions (that's not a typo) of mayflies hatching over Lake Erie around 10:00 p.m. on July 1.
The annual hatching is nothing new, but the radar images never cease to amaze at the volume of mayflies and how quickly they appear. There was a similar hatching just days earlier.
The mayflies rarely live more than a day, but when they appear they are impossible to miss.
Watch as the mayflies hatch and get blown across Lake Erie.
