A 29-year-old man has been charged in connection to the discovery of a woman's partial remains in Grand Rapids over the weekend. Jared James Chance faces charges of mutilation of a dead body and concealing the death of an individual, according to the Grand Rapids Police Department.

"We're not going to comment on the condition of the body, the remains we have, at this time because that's a very case-sensitive piece of information that we don't want out in the public." Sgt. Dan Adams to WOOD-TV

WOOD-TV reports that police still haven't been able to identify the victim because they found only partial remains Sunday at the residence on Franklin Street SE. Sources close to the investigation said the woman’s body was mutilated in an attempt to hide her identity. The Michigan State Police Crime Lab was testing DNA, but there are no estimates on when the results will be returned.

The family of Ashley Young, a Kalamazoo-area woman reported missing in Grand Rapids, has reportedly said she was last seen with Jared leaving a bar Thursday night of last week. Even though there are unofficial assumptions about what might have happened in the case, the missing persons case for her is still officially open.
