Major Disruption At Capital and Columbia Ave. Starts Monday

A major traffic disruption at one of the busiest intersections in all of Battle Creek is coming Monday.

For the past few weeks, crews have been tearing up Columbia Ave. between I-194 and Capital Ave. and working to replace the water main. Now, the work zone is going to extend; traffic in the intersection of Columbia and Capital will be shifted into one lane in both directions, with the two westbound lanes and the center left-turn lane being completely closed.

Traffic in both directions on Columbia will NOT be able to make left turns onto Capital during this work. Some driveways leading into businesses may need to be closed, in which case signs will go up to tell customers where they can go.

It’s estimated that this portion of the disruption will take about two weeks, and the City of Battle Creek says that they “highly encourage” those who drive on Columbia to seek alternate routes.
