The "America the Beautiful" program which began in 2010 was the beginning of a series of quarters to feature different landmarks from National Parks from all 50 states. Of the 56 coins and National Parks that will be released, only 1 Michigan quarter will be in the set. This coin will be released on Feb. 7, at 10 a.m.

The U.S. Mint has released the image that will be displayed on the new quarter after sifting through all the ideas that were finalists in the decision. Amongst those finalists were the Sleeping Bear Dunes and Isle Royale. However, there was one landmark that stood apart and deserved the recognition which was why it was chosen to be immortalized.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore on Lake Superior will become the 41st coin in the set. Known also as the Chapel Rocks, it's best known for the distinctive lone white pine tree that stands out on top of the rock. People who have seen it first hand know just how beautiful it is.

The quarter which was designed by artist Paul Balan will be unveiled during a ceremony at Mather Elementary School in Munising, Michigan next month. The coins in this set are issued in the order in which the featured site was first established as a national park or site and this particular coin will be the first of five released this year.
