One of the biggest off season questions for the Red Wings is will Niklas Kronwall return?  Today that questioned was answered.

According to the story from M-Live, Kronwall is retiring after 15 seasons in Detroit.   His playing career is done but he will continue with the team as an adviser to Steve Yzerman.

I always liked Niklas Kronwall as he was a steady player through out his career.  For most of his career, he was a great second pair player for the defense.  In his final years he became a great team leader to the younger players on the team.

He will be remembered for his many classic hits.   His hits were referred to as being, "Kronwall'd".    One of the more memorable is when he hit Martin Havlat of the Blackhawks in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals in 2009.

Another favorite is when he hit Lightning star, Nikita Kucherov in the playoffs in 2015. The hit ended up leading to a suspension for Kronwall and the Wings lost in 7 games to the Lightning.

Congratulations Niklas on a fantastic career and good luck on helping the Red Wings franchise return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
