If you are living in Southwest Michigan, it'll be very common around this type of year to deal with the bipolar attitude of Michigan's Winter. But there is also a strange phenomena that happens during this time of the year as well; If you've experienced this, you're not alone. Jennifer George, from Paw Paw, posted on the Paw Paw Now and Then page over the weekend: "We live in area of 657 and 58th, in Paw Paw, just outside Mattawan. We, and several other neighbors heard a giant boom, that shook the whole house. And friends off Stadium as well as Texas Drive heard/felt it as well. Curious if anyone else heard it, or knows anything?"

Well here is what it was: Cryoseism. Okay Mark, thanks. Now can you please explain what the trash that is? Absolutely. In more common terms it was an ice quake or a frost quake. That's a seismic event that may be caused by a sudden cracking action in frozen soil or rock saturated with water or ice. As water drains into the ground, it may eventually freeze and expand under colder temperatures, putting stress on its surroundings. This stress builds up until relieved explosively in the form of a cryoseism. So there you have it, an Ice Quake. Someone call The Rock.
