Electric Scooters and Bikes Coming to Roads in Muskegon
On Tuesday night, the City of Muskegon approved an ordinance which will allow electric scooters and electric bikes on roads and bike paths in Muskegon.
The move helps clear the way for companies that rent bikes and scooters to come to Muskegon. It's a trend that is growing quickly. A plan to bring 30 rental scooters to Grand Haven was announced last week.
WZZM13 says people as young as 12 will be allowed to ride in Muskegon, but ages 12 - 14 will require supervision.
The new ordinance brings a few rules:
- Bikes and scooters must stay on the side of the road and yield to vehicles and pedestrians.
- When riding on bike paths, there is a speed limit of 10 miles per hour.
- Users are not allowed to ride or park the scooters on sidewalks.
