Ford to Invest in Michigan
Shifting plans away from Mexico, Ford has announced a $700 million dollar investment in Michigan.
According to a Detroit Free Press article,
Ford CEO Mark Fields said the decision to cancel the plant in Mexico was based in part on changing market conditions with sales of small cars declining as well as the pro-business climate the automaker expects under incoming President Donald Trump.
So what does the future or Ford look like? Plans are in the works for 13 new electric vehicles to be introduced over the next five years, along with other hybrids, and a fully autonomous SUV. Ford is heading in to the future, and Michigan is in the driver's seat.
Aside from the obvious job opportunities that are sure to come from this announcement, Michigan has a chance to be seen as a global leader in industry, something The Mitten has desperately needed.
