Kalamazoo Metro Transit will resume Monday with new rules for passengers.

According to a press release we received from Kalamazoo Metro Transit, Metro fixed route service resumes this Monday, May 18, 2020.

In order to protect yourself and others from the spread of Covid-19 here are the new requirements you should know before getting on a Metro bus in Kalamazoo:

  • Face coverings must be worn, including the nose and mouth, or no ride will be provided. Face coverings can include a mask, a handmade mask, scarf or handkerchief.
  • Hand sanitizer is to be used when boarding the bus.
  • Limited seats will be provided on the fixed route buses so please only ride if essential.

Kalamazoo Metro Transit was sanitizing their buses frequently in March as Covid-19 worries increased.  However, sanitizing wasn't enough according to officials as social distancing was tough to enforce on a bus.  Metro had to temporarily suspend service beginning April 2nd in an effort to help stop the spread of the virus.  Metro Connect was providing single passenger trips on a first come first serve basis in early April.

Kalamazoo is now one small step closer to normal with this latest announcement.

Kalamazoo Metro Transit hours will be 6:15 A.M. - 6:15 P.M. Monday thru Saturday with no Sunday service.  According to the press release,

No fare will be collected with rear door boarding for all routes. Hourly bus service will be provided on routes except Routes 12-Duke and 21-Solon Kendall which will not operate during this limited service time period. Routes 1-Westnedge, 2-Portage, 9-Gull, and 14-West Main will operate additional service leaving the Transportation Center downtown at :45 to the hour Monday through Friday.
