Meteor Shower of the Year Peaks Over Michigan Next Week
I'm giving you a heads-up and plenty of advance warning. Get ready for the best show in space next week. The Perseid meteor shower—the most active of all annual meteor showers—will peak from Sunday through Tuesday. Early Tuesday morning should be your best bet for max meteor sightings. You can probably see some every morning right now, but they'll peak on Tuesday (BTW Max Meteor will be the name I use for my acoustic David Bowie/Ziggy Stardust tribute show).
According to CNET, you should be able to see 50-75 meteors per hour with this shower as long as you're in a rural area (how's that big city looking now?). Weather for Mid-Michigan looks pretty good early next week. The only "fly in the ointment" will be an almost full moon (the Sturgeon Moon will be the full moon on the 15th). With the high number of meteors though, you'll still see plenty of shooting stars.
