Today was day number one on the job for Dr. Edward Montgomery, the ninth president of Western Michigan University. He began his term by shaking a lot of hands.The hands of many well wisher as he steps into the leadership vacated by now retired president. Dr. John Dunn.

Montgomery's first day began at his "Seibert Administration Building office before attending a morning meeting of academic leadership gathered as part of the WMU Provost Council." After a media opportunity, more meetings and some orientation to the university he will lead.

Montgomery's formal inauguration is still some 40 days away. It will happen during the CommUniversity weekend celebration September 14-15. Official plans haven't been released yet, but the formal ceremony will be at Miller Auditorium on Friday, Sept. 15.
