If you're wondering what is being built in the vicinity of Drake Road and Stadium Drive, that's the new Ascension Medical Group Borgess Cancer Center. It's set to open in September. Ascension says "the 38,000 square foot facility will offer medical oncology, hematology and infusion services in a multi-level naturally contemporary clinical space".

Ascension also says the hiring process is underway that will fill "46 full-time positions ranging from pharmacists to oncology specialty nurses. Along with that, this center will also have 12 oncology doctors and specialists.

With the powerful combination of a multidisciplinary team and board-certified clinical experts utilizing state-of-the-art technology, providing comprehensive treatment plans in a serene, natural setting, patients will have access to the highest level of compassionate, personalized cancer care close to home. Featured amenities and services will include: 33 infusion bays, five private infusion rooms, 35 exam rooms, an on-site pharmacy, an on-site laboratory, nurse navigation program, survivorship program, medical social work, collaborative research, genetic services, health and wellness classes, dietary services, a patient-centered wellness program, access to prevention and early detection programs, cancer education and a full array of support services. - Ascension release

Ascension says construction crews broke ground in early August 2020 and recent progress includes framing and wall installation, electrical, and exterior masonry.

The fight against cancer is complicated but it appears another facility with state of the arts tools and medicines will be joining the battle here in Kalamazoo in just a matter of months.
