Scouts Try To Save Rota-Kiwan Reservation

Southwest Michigan leaders and parents of Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts are planning to continue their efforts to save the scout’s Rota-Kiwan Reservation in Kalamazoo.  The regional council announced earlier in the month that operations at the popular scout camp near Texas Corners would no longer conduct regular camping programs after the first of the year.  The Board of Directors of the Michigan Crossroads Council voted to move those programs to other scout camps. A regional scout executive says there is a chance some day camps may be held at Rota-Kiwan but nothing definite has been announced.

Area scout leaders and parents will get a chance to present their views about the decision during a “Fireside Chat” at the reservation tonight.  They’ve been working on a plan to that end since the decision to cut back on Rota-Kiwan activities was announced.

Todd Stevens, Scoutmaster of Troop 287, told WWMT that the area leaders have been working to, "Get our ideas out, get our thoughts out, so that we can walk in and have a game plan to present of how we think we can put this camp back."
